Bible Reading

“A thorough knowledge of the Bible is worth more than a college education.”
– Theodore Roosevelt

As believers in Christ or as people who seek to know God, reading the Bible is of the utmost importance. However, for many people, reading the Bible is hard and intimidating. It’s a long book (though not as long as you think!), and many passages are difficult to understand. But it doesn’t have to be hard!

One of the main things we do at CSOC Auraria is read and study the Bible together. We want to help you read and enjoy God’s word. To do this, we read through the Bible together as a club with a common Bible-reading schedule. Reading together keeps us motivated, helps us to be accountable to finish the Bible, and helps us understand the Word by discussing and studying it together. It also helps us get more out of God’s word, since we’re all reading and thinking about the same passages of Scripture at the same time.

There are three important reasons why we read the Bible:

  • To know God and His purpose. (Eph. 3:3-4)
  • To grow in God’s life. (Matt. 4:4; 1 Pet. 2:2-3; Psa. 119:11)
  • To allow God a way to move on the earth for His purpose  (Acts 12:24; 19:20)

Many people start reading the Bible but become overwhelmed by the number of books (66) or the number of chapters (1,189) in the Bible. What they don’t realize is that they can read the Bible in a year by reading about 3½ pages per day, or they can read the Bible in a month by reading about an hour a day.

Our Bible reading schedule is even easier! By reading about 1½ pages per day, our schedule will take you through the New Testament once a year, and the Old Testament once every three years. Need more help? Check out our Bible reading tips below.

Here are three ways you can join our Bible reading schedule.

We will use the 3 Year schedule in Partaker, so make sure to download the app, or bringing your PDF schedule and Bible. Tips for Bible Reading

1. Before each day’s reading portion, prepare your heart by spending a few minutes in prayer.

2. Although any time of the day is good for reading God’s word, the morning time at first part of your day is the best.

3. If you miss a day, don’t get discouraged. Keep up with the current day’s reading, and go back when you get a chance to read the portions you missed.

4. Find another student or staff member to keep yourself accountable, motivated and successful. The Christian life was not designed to be lived alone. Don’t be surprised when it doesn’t work that way!

5. Share your enjoyment of Christ with the world through Instagram, text, Facebook, or even better, in person! All of the grace and light God gives us individually is for the Body of Christ and for others’ encouragement, consolation, and building up. Don’t keep it to yourself!

6. Any other struggles you encounter are opportunities to experience the love and supply of the Body of Christ. Open up to those around you for prayer and you will be amazed at what God will do. You may also be surprised that you are not alone in your struggles. We’re in this together!
